This page is running on a Shiny server that allows the statistical package R to plot newborn growth on the 2013 Fenton growth charts for premature newborns. This version of the application allows you to upload spreadsheet data. If you prefer to enter your data directly on the web page, please click here.

A spreadsheet with comma separated variables (.csv) can be created using the 'Save As' .csv option in Excel and uploaded using the sidebar on the left. Column names must be as shown in the sample .csv file below, but column order is immaterial and additional columns are simply ignored. The variable weeks is equivalent gestational age in weeks (gestational age at birth + postnatal weeks); weight is in g; and length/head circumference (hc) are in cm.

You can of course use date variables to calculate weeks in your spreadsheet. Excel typically returns the differences between two dates in days, which you can divide by 7 to convert to weeks. For assistance, please see our illustrated guide: Creating .csv spreadsheets


Growth Charts

Once a dataset has been created, click Plot Now to render the chart. If you haven't uploaded a spreadsheet, the sample dataset will be plotted. The sidebar provides plot options and a choice of charts.

Once you're happy with your data and plot options, click on the Download button to download a hi-resolution graphic for publication or presentation.

PS: We are frequently contacted by users interested in the Fenton LMS tables for their own applications. Since we obtained these under a user agreement that specifically precludes sharing, you will need to contact Dr. Fenton directly at the University of Calgary. We are however happy to share LMS tables for other apps on this site.
